Re: Halo 3 Retail Game Research
Thats how I learned, and I garentee most of the more expirienced modders learned that way too. Which is why many bad habits\standards continue to plague their code today. Not saying that my code is always 100% right or the "standard", but there is much improvement left to be done in whats...

Re: Application Request Thread
Does that mean one could transfer the collision from a h2v map to h2x and inject the visual as a model? You could easily transfer the physics and collision data (collision also contains havok related data btw) but I don't know see why you can't "inject" new render geometry into the bsp if...

Re: Application Request Thread
I think the two major apps that should be worked on in general to keep a lot of folks around is 1. Custom bsp injection (proper mesh and collision) The problem is that you require updated Havok physics data when you change the bsp geometry. The convenient way to generate that data is to use the H2V...

Re: Halo 2 Vista Blastation Mod by Pingo RELEASED
The code for generating the AI pathfinding information isn't included in the H2EK that is shipped with H2V, so even with a "hacked" tool set, you won't be producing the required AI data for your bsp via the tool set.

A '_blf' data block is a 48 byte structure, nothing more, nothing less.

Re: Section Rules - Halo 3 Modding Q&A
Some scenery from the map is stored as null chunks and they are not counted towards the object count. When you place an item, it skips these chunks and goes to the open null chunks. I don't know if that helps? What you consider a "null chunk" is probably just a special state an object pla...

Yeah, there is only room for 640 object placements, no way to bypass that.

Re: Modding Discussion
As for the era archives, why would they use TEA? Well, assuming they went with XXTEA which is said to be more efficient with larger data than it's predecessor and wouldn't need a mode of operation if they were just encrypting the ENTIRE archive and not just blocks of the archive. Plus it wouldn't b...

Re: Modding Discussion
I've tried just cutting a sound file out of the sound bank and plopping it into a 'xma' and 'xm2' file but xmaencode didn't take it. I'm pretty sure xmaencode can handle little and bit endian formats too. I just may be using an older XDK tho... I've been doing a little comparing and it I noticed tha...

Re: Modding Discussion
Yeah, the sound bank is for their third party sound library they use. The ERA files are just archives containing the necessary game data (ie, RAD's Granny models and animations, xml definitions, etc). I took a look into archive decoding a few weeks ago but didn't get to far (not that high of a prior...

Re: Implamentation of Anti Cheat Software
The problem is, where there is a cause, there is a will. If someone wants to cheat, they will find a way to circumvent such impl e mentations, especially when its their machine running the software which talks back to the server. They have control over what is executed, its only a matter of time bef...

I played a Deathmatch 1v1 on that one map which is named after a guy who broke a Covie attack (which is actually made for 3v3). I made bases all on the southern side (where I started) while defending off covie attacks (commanded by the Arbiter). For most of the match I just pumped up my bases with t...

Last mission in GTA 4. Why i'm having so much trouble riding the damn dirt bike...I have no idea. I don't think i've ever tried so many times on a mission. I don't know what the hell keeps happening but it's very frustrating. I had problems too. I stopped playing for three days, went back, and got ...
