How could this NOT work?

Post by Ultamis »

I wanted to make a chainlink gate,so I took the metal grating shader from hightplains and added it to turf just to test it.I swapped the hinge doors shader for the grating and for some reason it froze...any clue why?

Sarcasm won't get you anywhere. I was tempted to not even reply. If nobody answers, it probably means that nobody knows.

Did we try it again?
Oh... and ummm; this isn't really a good place for this topic. Halo 2 Modding Discussion would have got you much more replies.

I think the bump was legit though, lol.

Ummm; the shader... I've used that before. Anyways that not how you would go about making a chain link gate...

You would probably not get much luck doing that actually because the model is like... its bars not a sheet so even if you had a really good chain link shader it would still be only on the bars of the gate. You could try building in a custom model but I don't know if you could get that to animate. I doubt it. Ummm... basically I think that if you wanted to make a chain-link gate, or wall so to say that would open you could...

Idea 1) Swap the model -- I don't know if animation is stored in model or not though so this is just off the top of my head.

Idea 2) use another machine that moves and place it it just the right spot so it looks like it is "falling down" when activated by some switch. You could then shader swap this with a transparent chain shader (costum).

Idea 3) Use the gate but looks bad...

Idea 4) Through scripting or active scenery this might be achieved--perhaps a combination. Say activate said script -> delete said object ->create new object with motion -> object falls and gets destroyed by script again. (I have NO halo 2 scripting experience so this is NOT my area of knowledge. This is just an Idea).

Sorry I know I didn't answer your original question but I have no direct answer; I only have some input on other parts of your post. The freezing is probably having to do with the oddness of Zanzibar Machs. There have been many problems with them.
